Description

The barn located to the rear of St. Peter's Hall is a 17th-century structure. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with a thatched roof. Originally consisting of five bays, it now has four, as the north gable has been replaced by a wall made of old bricks in various colors. The south end features a later brick partition wall and an upper floor. The entire frame shows signs of reconstruction and may have been relocated from another site. Short lengths of middle rail have been added between the studs, and long straight braces have been halved across them. The walls also include reversed arched braces, while the arched braces supporting the tie beams have been replaced with bolted knees. High doors were replaced around 1980 with a large reused 17th-century mullioned window, and there is another mullioned window in the south gable. The roof consists of eight bays, with two for each wall bay, featuring two rows of unstepped butt purlins and straight windbraces. The barn is included for its group value.
