Description
School Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 17th century. It is two storeys high with a timber-framed core that is encased in early 19th-century colour-washed brick and features a slate roof with copings on the gables. The building has one internal chimney stack and one end chimney stack, both made of plain red brick.
The front of the farmhouse is distinguished by five plain full-height pilasters. Each storey has five windows and one blank panel, with the windows being two-light and three-light mullion-and-transom types on the ground storey, which have segmental arches to their frames and surrounds. The entrance door has six sunk panels, with the top two being glazed, and is framed by panelled linings, half-round pilasters, and an entablature.
Most of the framing is covered on the inside, but the basic three-cell layout has been altered in the early 19th century. An open truss with long arched braces is visible on the upper floor, while the roof is inaccessible.
