Description

Pettistree War Memorial is made of Portland stone and is situated in the churchyard of the Church of St Peter and St Paul. The memorial features a simple Latin cross that rises from a trapezoid-shaped plinth, which is placed on a two-stepped square base.

The plinth is inscribed on three sides. One side contains a dedication to the First World War, which reads: IN/ GRATEFUL MEMORY OF/ THE MEN/ OF PETISTREE/ WHO GAVE UP THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919. Another side lists the names of those who fell in the First World War, while the final side bears the name of one individual who fell in the Second World War, marked by the dates 1939 – 1945.
