Description

Strafford House is a house dated 1770 and remodelled in 1864, located at 33 Crag Path in Aldeburgh. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a slate roof with end stacks.

The exterior is a two-storey late 18th-century house with three window bays, which were altered in the 19th century by the addition of three-storey canted bay windows on both the right and left sides of the elevation. The corners of the elevation are chamfered back under vestigial capitals, and there are console brackets at the eaves level. The central entrance features a three-panelled door with bolection mouldings and an overlight fitted with curved and geometric glazing bars. Between the first and second floor bay windows, there are canted balconies with stick balustrading, supported by tiered moulded square-section timber posts with scrolled brackets at the top. The first-floor balcony has a half-glazed door and a tablet dated 1770, 1864, and 1900. The bay windows on the ground and first floors have unhorned sashes with 8/12 panes between 4/6 panes, while the second-floor sashes are shorter, arranged as 4/4, 8/8, and 4/4. The eaves cornice is decorated with dentilled and dog-tooth brickwork.

The interior has not been inspected.
