Description

The Suffolk is a hotel that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early 19th century and underwent alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with a stuccoed and rusticated ground floor, while the upper floors are plastered and colourwashed. It has a slate roof with an internal gable end stack to the south; the corresponding stack on the north side has been removed.

The exterior features three storeys and a five-window range. The central entrance has a six-panelled door beneath an 11-vaned boarded fanlight, which is sheltered by a portico porch supported by Tuscan columns. This porch has a deep semicircular hood with a panelled soffit. On either side of the entrance, there are two unhorned sash windows with six panes each, set under gauged skewback arches, with the outer windows being smaller. On the first floor, there is an oval light with glazing bars above the porch, three unhorned sash windows with three panes to the left, and a blind window on the right end. The second floor has five unhorned sash windows with three panes each. The building is adorned with moulded string courses at the first and second floors.

Inside, there is a stick-baluster staircase with a ramped handrail and octagonal newel posts that rises to the first floor, although the upper flights have been replaced. There are also several minor timber fire surrounds.
