Description

The National Provincial Bank is an 18th-century building that has undergone some alterations. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and is constructed of painted brick. The first floor features three near-flush-frame sash windows with glazing bars, which originally had cambered heads, as indicated by the remaining arches. There are also two casement dormers and new pantiles on the roof. The ground floor has bank windows and entrances enclosed in a wooden case, supported by slender pilasters and topped with a bracket entablature.

This building, along with No 3, forms a group with Lloyds Bank and the adjacent premises to the north and south in Exchange Square. Newmarket is recognized for its significant central group of buildings, including those surrounding the "island."
