Description

This is an 18th-century building, later faced with 19th-century brickwork. It is three storeys high with three windows on each floor. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars and flat arches. A distinctive ogee bracket cornice sits above a plain course. The roof is slate and hipped. The ground floor has a shop front with a wood case. Inside, the first floor contains a panelled room, and the second floor features a Regency-style fireplace. The building is part of a significant group that includes the King’s Head Hotel and the “Wine Shop,” forming a crucial element of the central area of Newmarket, which is notable for its buildings around and within the central space.
