Description

No. 20 is an early 19th century corner building in Newmarket, featuring a return face to the south. Constructed of red brick with a hipped pantile roof, it stands three storeys tall and has two sash windows with cambered heads, now featuring only central glazing bars. The ground floor serves as a shop, which has been mostly modernized but retains Corinthian columns on either side of the entrance at the corner. On the return face, there is one blank recess instead of a window on each floor, with red gauged flat arches above. This building is part of an important group of structures in the central area of Newmarket, known as the "island."
