Description

The premises occupied by a wine shop is a building originally from the 17th century, with later alterations. It has two storeys and attics, constructed of red brick, featuring a Dutch gable end to the north and three gabled dormers. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there are five first-floor double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor has 18th or early 19th-century bowed shop fronts. Although recently rebuilt, the front is a facsimile that retains the shop fronts, with one rebuilt to match the other two. This building is part of a significant group that includes the King's Head Hotel and No. 8 Market Street, contributing to the important central group of buildings in Newmarket.
