Description
The Sorrell Horse Inn is a public house located on Hollesley Road in Shottisham. It dates back to the 16th or 17th century, with 19th and 20th-century additions. The building features a timber frame with rendered infill and has a thatched roof, along with areas covered in slates and pantiles. It stands two storeys high.
The front of the building has a central section that is the original part, flanked by 19th-century additions on either side and a 20th-century extension at the rear. The entrance front consists of three bays, with a doorway positioned to the right of the center, featuring a plank door. To the right of the doorway is a three-light casement window, and to the left are two similar windows, all dating from the 19th century. The first floor features three swept dormer windows with semi-circular tympana above the two-light casements. The thatched roof is half-hipped on the right side and gabled on the left, with a ridge chimney stack located to the left of center, which has two pots.
To the right of the central section is a single-storey addition made of colour-washed brick, which includes one three-light window to the left of center and two chimney stacks. The left-hand addition is two storeys high, featuring a plank door on the right, a three-light window on the ground floor to the left, and a two-light window on the first floor in the center. There is a chimney stack on the left-hand gable end. At the rear, there is a 20th-century single-storey extension on the right, with all windows in this section being from the 20th century.
Inside, the building has chamfered and encased ceiling beams.
