Description
The Rose and Crown Public House is a public house dating from the 17th century, with extensions from the early 18th century, alterations in the 19th century, and further extensions in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is partially cased in brick, rendered and whitewashed, with tiled roofs. The building has three bays, with a taller parallel range added to the front, and stands two storeys high.
On the ground floor, there is a central entrance set in a reveal, a 19th-century canted bay window to the right, and a long 15-pane sash window to the left. The first floor has two three-light casement windows. The building has external end stacks with offsets and double gable returns. At the rear, there is a one-storey and attic range with a continuous outshut and a catslide roof. The rear also features dentilled brick eaves.
On the right return, there are two-light casement windows and an exposed wall plate. To the rear left, there is a two-bay timber-framed outbuilding that is weatherboarded and has a central clasped purlin truss. The 20th-century extensions to the left are not considered of special interest.
