Description
The Coal and Wine Post opposite High Lodge is a duty post dating from 1862, made of cast iron. It has a square plan and features a base with a raised inscription that reads "Henry Grissell, 1862, Regents Canal Iron Works, London." The post has a square shaft with chamfered corners, which is inscribed with ".4 & 25 VICT CAP 42." It also includes a moulded band and a moulded top that culminates in a pyramidal cap. These posts were installed following the 1851 and 1861 Acts to define the boundaries of London for coal and wine duties.
