Description
The Lodge at Sutton Hall is a former lodge to Wood Hall, now functioning as a cottage. It was built in the early 19th century and underwent additions and alterations in the late 19th or early 20th century. The structure is made of rubble flint with red brick dressings and features a thatched roof.
The entrance front has three bays arranged symmetrically. The central doorway is adorned with interlacing tracery in the panels. On either side of the door are two-light casement windows that include Y-tracery. A 20th-century porch with round wooden posts and a hipped roof is positioned in front of the door. Above, there is a central gabled two-light dormer window on the first floor. The building has brick quoins at the corners and around the door and windows. The hipped roof has a central ridge chimney stack.
On the right flank, there is a two-light casement window on the first floor, and a similar window is found on the left flank. The rear of the building features a projecting central wing with a hipped roof. Originally, this lodge was a single-storey building and a twin to the structure across the drive, which is now the Sutton Hall Estate Office. The lodge was later extended to the rear and raised to include a first floor.
