Description

This is a small country house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is built of yellow and red random bond brick with a slate roof. The front, originally the entrance front, has three symmetrical bays. A low, later-19th-century single-storey extension now occupies the left-hand side. The three bays on the right have a slightly projecting plinth. The ground floor windows are sash windows with 3x4 panes, set within relieving arches with semi-circular heads and ashlar sills. The first floor has three similar windows, though of a smaller size, with matching heads and sills. The roof is hipped, with chimneys located to the right of centre and to the left. The entrance extension features a porch with lateral projecting brick square columns and moulded columns, enclosing a recessed tripartite doorway with a central half-glazed door flanked by side lights of 1x3 panes. A sash window of 3x4 panes is also present to the left of the porch.

The garden front, which was originally the entrance front, is symmetrically arranged with three bays. The central bay is slightly projecting and features an ashlar door surround with projecting springers and a keystone. It now contains a glazed door with 3x3 panes. To either side of the central bay are sash windows with ashlar sills and flat arched heads of 3x4 panes. There are three similar windows to the first floor, smaller in size. A pedimental gable is positioned centrally, with a moulded brick surround. To the right of the gable is a projecting service wing, featuring 20th-century metal-framed French windows to the ground floor and a two-light casement window on the first floor.

Inside, the drawing room has been extended into the former entrance corridor. A late 18th/early 19th-century Neo-Classical chimney piece, originally from Methersgate Hall in Sutton, is a notable feature. It has a wooden Adam-style surround with fluted pilasters, acanthus leaves to the necking, and rams' heads in profile to the top of the capital. The frieze includes projecting plaques with swags, urns, and rinceau ornament. The staircase has two flights with a half-landing, stick balusters, and a rounded handrail with a wreathed curtail. Hob grates with wood or slate chimney pieces are found in the first floor rooms.
