Description

Shottisham Hall is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with extensive additions made in the 18th century. It is timber framed, featuring rendered walling and a pantile roof. The building stands two storeys high with an attic and follows a three-cell baffle-entry plan.

The entrance front is stuccoed and designed to imitate ashlar blocks. On the right side, there is a projecting 19th-century gabled wing that includes a sash window at the centre of the ground floor. To the left of this wing is the late 16th-century portion, which was refaced in the 19th century. This section has a door on the far right with four recessed panels and a moulded doorcase. To the left of the door, there is a four-light casement window, and at the far left, a three-light 20th-century casement window, with a single-light casement window positioned between them. The first floor features three three-light 19th-century casements. The roof has gable ends and includes a ridge chimney stack on the right with two flues, and another ridge stack to the left of centre with four flues.

On the right side, the gable end has a large battered chimney stack at its centre, but much of the lower body is obscured by two gabled outshuts, one dating from the 18th century and the other from the 19th century. The rear of the building includes a projecting lean-to on the right side of the ground floor, alongside a 20th-century conservatory to the left and a porch with a hipped slate roof further left. There is an additional doorway on the left, featuring a door with four flush panels. To the right of this door is a four-light casement window, and to the left is a three-light casement window, both dating from the 19th century. The first floor has a four-light window to the right of centre and a two-light 20th-century casement to the right of that. To the left is a projecting gabled wing with a two-light cambered-headed casement window at ground floor level.

Inside, the ground floor features chamfered ceiling beams, one of which has ogee end-stops. The first floor landing showcases jowled wall-posts and exposed close studding, while the roof includes chamfered purlins and wind bracing.
