Description

The Plume of Feathers Public House is a public house located in Tewin, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame that is plastered, with tiled roofs. It has a three-cell front range and a cross-roofed bay at the rear right, standing two storeys tall.

On the ground floor, there is a recessed entrance to the right of the centre, which has a fielded panelled door beneath a later broad hood. The front also includes three sets of two-light and four-light small pane slightly recessed casements. The first floor has a configuration of two, three, and three-light windows. A large red brick chimney stack from the 17th century is located just behind the ridge between the centre and right bays, with a rebuilt capping. The right end of the building features a hip roof and a slightly taller bay behind it, along with angle buttresses added at the right corner and on the right return. The right end has three-light casements, while the left end of the main range has an added external stack in a low hipped outshut, which was formerly used for stabling and has double doors at the front, extending well back with a slate roof. There are 19th-century additions to the rear and a 20th-century flat-roofed addition at the rear right that is not of special interest. Inside, some of the framing is exposed.
