Description

The Rose and Crown Public House is a building that dates back to the 17th century, with a cross range incorporated into a rebuilding from the mid-18th century. It has been extended and altered in the 20th century. The early core features a timber frame that is rendered, while the later structure is rebuilt in red brick with burnt headers and has tiled roofs.

The main block is five bays wide, two stories tall, and includes an attic, with an early two-cell cross range at the rear left. A central 20th-century gabled porch is flanked by three-light leaded pane casements that have moulded frames, are slightly recessed, and feature slightly cambered heads. There is a plat band at the first floor, which has five two-light casements with flush frames. The eaves are boxed, and there are two box dormers with two lights over the outer bays. The gable end parapets have kneelers, and there are internal end stacks, one of which on the left has a stock brick addition at the rear.

On the left side, the 17th-century building has ground floor brick cladding with a two-light casement, and a four-light small pane flush frame casement on the first floor. There is an external stack at the rear gable end with an early base and later capping. The left end has a 20th-century lean-to, and there is a 20th-century wing at the rear. At the rear centre and right of the main range, there is a catslide roof over a continuous lean-to outshut, which is raised on the right and features two casements and tile hanging. Inside, there are stop-chamfered binding beams, although the first floor has not been inspected.
