Description
The Ostrich Inn is a public house dating from the 16th to 17th century, comprising several builds with later additions and alterations. It features a timber-framed structure that is rendered, standing on a brick plinth, with a brick casing on the right gable end and rear. The building has brick stacks and extensions, topped with plain tile roofs, forming a T-shaped range with extensions at the rear. It is two storeys high and includes a cellar. The entrance is off-centre in a slightly recessed bay, featuring a 19th-century door. On the first floor, there are four 20th-century casement windows. The right gable end has a ridge and an external stack, while the left gable end features a prominent canted bay with casement windows and bargeboards. At the rear, there is a gabled cross wing that is largely hidden by later additions.
Inside, the room to the left contains a spine beam that is partly ovolo moulded and partly chamfered with stops, along with tenoned-in joists. There is a beam with a bar stop, and the first-floor sections of framing are visible, including jowled posts, one chamfered tie beam, and wall plates. The roof is inaccessible, but the left side has a barrel vaulted ceiling.
