Description
The Uplands is a house located on Uplands Road in Carlton Colville. The building dates from the 18th century at the rear and features an early 19th-century front range. It has a double pile plan, with the front range constructed of white brick, accented by a stone cornice and a flat parapet on three sides, topped with a slated roof. The rear of the house is made of red brick, partially rendered, and has a pantiled roof.
The house is two storeys tall with an attic at the rear and presents a symmetrical facade with flanking pilaster strips. It has five windows featuring inset sashes with glazing bars, all set under flat brick arches. The ground floor windows still show the remains of blind boxes. The entrance features an inset six-panel door, where the upper panels have leaded glazing and the centre panels are bolection-moulded. Above the door is a rectangular leaded fanlight, and the doorcase is adorned with pilasters and an entablature. Inside, the staircase boasts stick balusters, a wreathed handrail, and carved tread-ends.
