Description

Grove Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It has a core dating back to the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, particularly when the house was extended to the left. Originally likely timber-framed, it is now constructed of red brick, except for a small section of the facade which features pale yellow brick. The front roof slope is covered with glazed black pantiles, while the rear is finished with slates. The building is two storeys high with attics and consists of a single long range with a continuous lean-to at the rear.

The left-hand dwelling has five sash windows set in flush frames, each under segmental yellow brick arches, along with a central doorway featuring a six-panel door (with the upper two panels glazed), pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The right-hand dwelling has three windows, including tripartite sashes on the ground floor, and a lobby entrance with a mid-20th century doorway that matches the style. The original plaster coved eaves cornice extends across the entire facade. The windows in both dwellings have glazing bars only in the upper sashes. The gable ends have parapets, and there are internal and gable stacks. Inside, there is a closed-string staircase with slender turned balusters at the later end, and two rooms in the right-hand dwelling feature exposed joists set on edge. The roof from the 17th century remains largely intact.
