Description

Elmtree Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1760, with a mid-19th century extension added to the east side. The west front faces the garden and is constructed of brick and flint, roughcast and colourwashed, topped with pantile roofs. The building features a lobby entrance plan and stands two storeys tall with three bays. The central door is located behind a late 20th century conservatory and has a six-panel design, with the upper pair being glazed. It is framed by a reeded timber surround with roundels in the upper corners, topped by a flat moulded hood. To the left of the door is an early 19th century three-light metal casement window, while to the right is a 20th century three-light casement. The two first-floor windows are three-light casements from around 1760, featuring glazing bars and timber frames. The roof is gabled with a central ridge stack, and there is a sloping flint and brick extension from 1990 abutting the north gable. The south gable has a 20th century window, and small kneelers support the gable parapets.

The east side extension is made of colourwashed brick and is also two storeys high. It has a 20th century plank door located to the right of centre, with one three-over-three sash window on either side, both under rendered skewback arches, and two identical sashes on the first floor. The roof is gabled with internal gable-end stacks, the southern stack being a late 20th century rebuild.

Inside, the lobby entrance plan remains intact. The west part, dating from the 18th century, contains two ground-floor rooms, each featuring a chamfered bridging beam. The beam in the south room has nicked tongue stops. The winder staircase is located to the east of the stack, opposite the main entrance, following the typical 18th century lobby-entrance layout. The north room has a rebuilt brick fireplace, while the south room has a 20th century tile fireplace.
