Description
Church Corner Cottage, Church Room, and Crossways Cottage is a former guildhall that has been converted into two cottages with a Church Room in between. It dates from the late 15th century to early 16th century, with later additions at both ends, including a right-hand addition from the mid to late 19th century and a late 19th-century rear addition to the Church Room. The building is timber framed with pebbledash render, while the right-hand addition is constructed of red brick. It has a thatched roof and stands two storeys tall, featuring five windows with various casements from the 18th and 19th centuries, along with two plank doors and one boarded door. There are two internal stacks, and the right side has a parapet gable end with an integral stack. The original structure consists of three bays and has a queen post roof. The roof was originally open at the first-floor level and included two ornamental open trusses, of which one remains, showing evidence of the second. The surviving truss features slender octagonal queen posts with moulded bases and well-carved moulded and crenellated capitals, with slightly canted arcade plates. The remainder of the roof has been altered. Inside the Church Room, there is a floor beam with broach stop-chamfers and short arched-bracing to the wall posts, but very little timbering is visible elsewhere.
