Description
The Woodlands is a farmhouse, formerly known as Rookery Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century. It has two storeys and attics, constructed with timber framing and rendered, topped with 20th-century single Roman tiles. On the southwest side, there is a brick gable-end featuring a chimney stack, along with another stack on the rear wall. Behind this is a wing that was originally a kitchen and dairy but is now used as a garage and outhouse. A small second rear wing has a roof that was replaced in the 20th century.
The main range of the farmhouse has plain 20th-century three-light casement windows and a six-panelled door, with the top two panels glazed. The timber frame is divided into four irregular bays, with exposed timbers visible inside. The interior features plain scudding, deep main beams with curved stops, and chamfered joists set flat. The original upper ceilings match the style of those on the ground floor. The roof structure consists of five bays, with one row of clasped purlins and one row of unstepped butt purlins that have tapered-off ends, along with windbraces and diminished principals.
