Description

Kettleburgh Hall is a Grade II* listed building that was originally a single house but is now divided into two. It dates back to the 16th century and has undergone various alterations and extensions, particularly a 17th-century bay added to the south. The structure is timber framed and plastered, with a roof covered in modern concrete pantiles. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and features various casement windows.

The south gable of the main range showcases an impressive 17th-century two-storey canted bay made of rendered brick. This bay has four inset columns at its corners on each floor, topped with entablatures and a brick dentil cornice on the first floor. Square attached columns flank the bay, and while the original ovolo-moulded mullion and transom side lights are blocked, the central windows have been replaced with tripartite sashes. Above the gable end is a bust of Arthur Pennyng, who was the High Sheriff of Suffolk and owner of the house in the late 16th century.

To the southeast of the main range, there is a notable external stack featuring three detached octagonal flues with moulded bases and linked star caps. A timber-framed wing, likely from the 17th century, is located to the west and includes a six-panel door and a 19th-century gabled open porch. The interior has been significantly modernised, with the main beams encased in plaster from the 17th century. Some 17th-century ornamental plasterwork with a running vine motif can be found on the first floor, and there is an attic fireplace with a four-centre brick arch.
