Description

Gatewood Farmhouse is a circa 1600 farmhouse. A mid-19th century brick lean-to extends along the rear wall. The main range is timber-framed and roughcast rendered, with a clay pantile roof. It has an internal chimney-stack with a plain, rebuilt red brick shaft. The farmhouse has three windows: small-paned casements in flush frames, with the ground floor windows being larger than those above. A 20th-century plank door provides access. The house currently has a three-cell lobby-entrance form, but an internal frame joint suggests a third unit was added later. Plain ceiling-beams are exposed in all ground-floor rooms, with flat joists and a main beam featuring a chamfer and stops. Two open fireplaces are present, each with a timber lintel.
