Description
This is a 16th-century barn located approximately 150 metres north of Little Wenham Castle and west of the Church of St Lawrence. The barn is constructed of red brick, featuring some black headers and decorative diapering on the lower storey, while the upper storey is timber framed with brick nogging infill. It has a pantiled roof and a gabled midstreys on the east face. The structure consists of eight bays, with two nine-light mullions on both the east and west faces, as well as mullions on the gabled returns. There is a vertically boarded door on the north side of the east face, which is supported by several brick buttresses. The roof structure includes queen posts with arched braces to the collars, double side purlins, and arched braces to the upper purlins and tie beams. Four pairs of storey posts have been inserted, along with the original half-height storey posts, which are chamfered and jowled. The top plate features halved and bridled scarfs.
