Description
Jermyns Farmhouse is a house dating from the 14th to 15th century, with later alterations and a 20th-century extension. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with red plain tiled roofs. The building features external chimney stacks on the right return and at the rear of the hall. It has two-storey crosswings, with the left crosswing dating from the 20th century, and a one-storey and attic hall. The original right crosswing jetties at the rear. The facade has a window arrangement of 1:2:1, featuring various 20th-century Tudor style leaded windows. There is a 20th-century plank and muntin door with sidelights. A notable feature is a carved wood bressumer in the hall, which is said to have come from the demolished Waldamur Building in Ipswich. Inside, there is an inserted ceiling in the two-bay hall, and one arched brace remains on the tie beam, supporting a four-armed octagonal crown post with a capital and base. A similar crown post is said to exist in the crosswing roof. The braces to the crosswing tie beam have been cut away, and there is arched halved bracing on the wall.
