Description

Nos 8 to 12 Bear Street is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house that was refronted in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The ground storey is underbuilt in red brick, and the house is now divided into three tenements. It has two storeys and features a four-window range with double-hung sashes that have glazing bars and stuccoed lintels on the ground storey. The upper storey has 20th-century metal windows that resemble double-hung sashes but include pivot hung top lights. There are three boarded doors, and a moulded wood band runs across the front between the storeys. The roofs are tiled with old tiles and hipped at the east end. Some exposed timber-framing can be seen at the rear. Inside, the house has moulded ceiling beams and joists.
