Description
This building, known as Butchers, is located on Bear Street in Nayland with Wissington. It was formerly the Butcher's Arms Inn and dates back to the 16th century. The structure is a timber-framed house with visible timber framing and plaster infill, standing two storeys tall. The upper storey juts out over the front, supported by a carved bressummer featuring folded ribbon ornamentation and exposed joists. There is also a moulded wall plate present. The upper storey has three windows with old leaded casements, while the ground storey features leaded casements that were restored in the 20th century. The roof is covered with old tiles, and the west end of the building is gabled, showcasing the exposed timber framing. The building is noted for its composite group interest.
