Description
Nos 16-20 on Thwaite Road are elderly persons bungalows built in 1958 by the former Loddon Rural District Council, designed by architects Tayler and Green. The bungalows are constructed of light yellow-grey brick, with the date '1958' highlighted in red on the gable end of No 16. They feature an orange-red pantile roof and wooden bargeboards, which are profiled with dentils on No 16. Tall brick chimney stacks have pitched concrete copings and clay pots. The bungalows have wide frontages, with Nos 16-18 each featuring slightly recessed porches that include half-glazed doors flanked by trelliswork, and three-light steel casement windows. These two blocks create a 'proscenium' effect framing Windmill Green and are connected to it by screen walls. The bungalows also serve to screen the long back gardens of the houses on Windmill Green. While the planning of these bungalows is of special interest, there are no notable internal features.
