Description
29 The Close is a Grade II* house dating from the early 19th century, built partly on the walls of 16th and 17th-century structures. It is constructed of brick, with a rear range made of brick and flint rubble, and features a pantile roof. The building has a double-pile L-shaped plan and presents a two-storey elevation to the street with three bays. The right-hand side has a doorway flanked by fluted Doric pilasters, leading to a panelled door topped with a rectangular fanlight and a pediment. Sash windows with glazing bars are present throughout. The east side elevation includes a round-headed window with Y-tracery on the first floor. The house is adorned with 19th-century 'Tudor' chimney stacks and has carved and shaped barge-boards.
