Description
32 and 33 The Close is a former brewhouse, now a pair of houses, with a date plaque indicating J.A.R. 1682. The building is constructed of red brick and features a pantile roof. It has a double-pile plan, with the rear section incorporating the medieval brewhouse and standing two storeys high. The structure consists of 8 bays, with a single bay extension on the left and another on the right at the rear. Each house has an off-centre door that is framed by a two-order surround with a fluted architrave and a small flat hood above. There is a string-course between the ground and first floors, and the building is fitted with 18th-century sash windows that include glazing bars. The cornices are supported by Corinthian brackets, and there is a recessed parapet above the cornice on the left-hand extension. The hipped roof features four hipped-roof dormers, each with two-light casement windows, and there is one hipped dormer in the right-hand extension.
