Description
16 and 18 Princes Street are a pair of houses, now used as offices, dating from the early 18th century. They feature a rendered plinth and are constructed of red brick with a slate roof and two rendered gable-end chimneys. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and possibly a cellar.
The façade has six first-floor windows arranged symmetrically. A central two-window bay projects forward and includes two part-glazed doors with raised and fielded panels, framed by Gibbs surrounds with pediments. No. 16 has panelled reveals, while No. 18 features a flush-hung door and a 18th-century recessed bow-fronted shop window with panelled reveals, a Gibbs surround, and a moulded hood.
To the left of the door at No. 16, there is a small sash window with horns, and two large-pane sash windows under flat ribbed brick arches. All first-floor sash windows have glazing bars. No. 18 has one inserted dormer with a low-pitched roof and casements. Additionally, No. 16 displays cast iron plaques reading T/SG/1777 and H/S.P/1834.
