Description
The Maddermarket Theatre, originally a Strangers Chapel, dates from around 1800 and has 20th-century additions. It is constructed of red and painted brick with 'Tudor' decoration and features pantile roofs. The building has an L-shape plan with a 20th-century extension on the left side. The central and right-side entrances are located in a single-storey full-width projection, which includes an oriel window and a gable above the right-side door. There is a 20th-century entrance on the left return with eight steps leading up to it. The right-hand wing contains single-storey workshops with two plain doors, a casement window, and a loading door topped with a fanlight. The workshop wing has a two-storey end featuring a side door, a recessed ground-floor window, and three first-floor casement windows, all under a single-pitch roof. Additionally, there is a two-storey, two-bay extension to the north along the lane, which includes casement windows.
