Description

No. 20 St John Maddermarket is a former building of unknown use that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 16th century and was raised in the 18th century. The exterior is rendered and features rusticated quoins, with a pantile roof. The building stands three storeys high and has a jetty at the first floor. It has two bays, with a central door flanked by fluted pilasters and a plain architrave, topped with a small rectangular fanlight. The windows are sash style throughout, with glazing bars on the ground floor, small flat hoods on consoles at the first floor, and eared surrounds at the second floor. A paired bracket cornice completes the design.
