Description

TG 2208 NE CHARING CROSS (south side) 15/151 5.6.72 No.2 GV II Former use unknown, now shop and museum store with C15 undercroft. Shop and museum store:- Rendered timber frame at first and 2nd floors. Pantile roof. Corner site. 3 storeys, jetty at first floor. 6 bays to Charing Cross, 2 bays to Maddermarket. C20 picture windows at ground floor. Loading doors at extreme right. Sash windows with glazing bars and simple moulded surrounds. First floor loading-doors in 3rd bay from right with glazing bars, simple moulded surround and flat hood. Plain box cornice. Hipped roof Undercroft:- brick. 2 bays with single order diagonal ribs. West bay with hollow chamfered ribs and circular side chamber away from street. C20 east wall. The building is graded II because of the undercroft, one of an important group within the City Walls.
