Description
The Congregational Chapel, originally an Independent chapel, dates from the late 18th century, with a doorway added in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a pantile roof. The building is square in shape and consists of a single storey with three bays. The central entrance has a recessed round-headed panelled door set within a doorcase that includes pilasters supporting an arch, a coved cornice, and a hood. This entrance is flanked by a pair of recessed round-headed cast-iron bootscrapers. On either side of the door are pointed sash windows with stucco sills and Gothick glazing. The building has a three-course stepped brick eaves cornice and a tall hipped roof. At the rear, there are two similar Gothick windows. The left side of the building features an inserted round window and marks from a former late 19th-century extension. Inside, the chapel retains its original box pews with fielded-panel doors and a 19th-century platform with an ornate cast-iron balustrade. At the time of the last survey, the chapel was empty and disused.
