Description

St. Ethelbert is a former building of unknown use, now functioning as a restaurant and club, constructed in 1888 by E.P. Wilkins. The structure is made of red brick and rendered surfaces, with hung and plain tiles. It features two storeys plus an attic, with symmetrical bays and an additional bay. The central entrance has a hood supported by consoles and a large shell moulding. There is a yard entry at the far left with an open pediment. The building includes circular windows with scrolled and pedimented surrounds, as well as 6-light mullion and transom windows on the ground floor. A dentil string course runs across the first floor, which also has oriel windows adorned with swags between them. The roofline features a coved cornice and a decorated parapet, along with three large dormer gables that have casement windows; the outer bays have bargeboards with finials, while the central dormer has a pediment. The mansard roof is covered with decorated tiles. On the right side, there is a single bay with a door at the far right, framed by a moulded stone surround and a broken pediment. This bay also has two mullion and transom windows on the ground floor and a canted first floor window with a brick pediment and apron, topped with a Dutch gable. Five lamp posts are positioned in front of the facade.
