Description
Gresham War Memorial is situated in the churchyard of the Church of All Saints, which is a Grade II*-listed building. The memorial stands next to the churchyard wall and overlooks the entrance. It features a stone obelisk that is square in shape, resting on a two-stepped stone base, and is surrounded by a concrete kerb filled with gravel.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the obelisk states: "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE GRESHAM MEN WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR," followed by the names of 12 individuals. An additional inscription on the uppermost step reads: "THEY FOUGHT IN A NOBLE CAUSE THEY DIED THAT ENGLAND MIGHT LIVE." There is also an inscription commemorating the Second World War, which states: "1939-1945," followed by the names of 6 individuals.
