Description
Edgefield Hall is a farmhouse dating from around 1600 and later, situated on a moated site with the moat located to the south. The building consists of two ranges, both two storeys high. The west range, which is from the 17th or 18th century, is constructed of flint with brick dressings and features a pantile roof. The east range, built around 1880, is made of brick and also has a pantile roof.
The west facade has six bays and two storeys, with a forward projecting wing to the left. Bays two and three are rendered, and the windows include sashes. Bays five and six are in flint with brick dressings. The facade features a dentil cornice, 20th-century casements on the ground and first floors in bay five, and a 20th-century double-leaved French glazed window on the ground floor with a tripartite sash above it.
A large, projecting three-storey gabled porch, dating from around 1600, is located at bay four and is a remnant of the former house. It has clasping polygonal buttresses that end in tall octagonal shafts with oversailing caps, and a finial on the porch gable that is similar but shorter. The buttress plinths are capped with moulded bricks covered in lead, which have mid-18th century graffiti. The porch features a four-centred arch with a blank plaque above it, and the first floor has a 20th-century steel framed three-light casement along with a blocked window to the right return and a blocked window on the second floor. The right-hand gable was renewed around 1880.
The shorter east range, built around 1880, consists of four bays and has four windows on each floor, including tripartite sashes, a sash, and sashes with marginal lights. There is a gabled single-storey brick porch at the second bay.
