Description

The Mount is a house dating from the early 17th century, with later additions and a refronting around 1800. It is constructed of flint and brick, with a pantile roof, the front being rendered. The main building is a single range of four bays, with two wings extending to the rear. The house has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar. There are gable end stacks and an axial stack positioned off-centre. The upper floor has four sixteen-pane sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor has two sash windows with marginal lights on the left-hand side, a French window, and a central doorway with a flat canopy and doorcase featuring reeded pilasters. The right-hand gable is a mix of flint and brick, featuring brickwork in a lozenge pattern, a flint plinth with a moulded brick cap, and three levels – ground floor, first floor, and attic – each with two windows and moulded brick hood moulds. The left-hand gable is a mosaic of flint and brick with brick dressings, and includes a double-leaved French window with glazing bars and margin lights, dating from around 1800. The left-hand wing, facing the garden, has two casement windows with glazing bars that reach close to the ground floor, and first-floor sashes, four panes wide by three panes, with glazing bars. A rear extension housing the staircase has a sash window with glazing bars and a fixed semicircular head with glazing bars. The right-hand wing is four storeys high and has varied window placement. Internally, a ground floor room on the right-hand side has ovolo moulded principal beams. A room on the left-hand side features reeded window surrounds and reeded pilasters to the fireplace. The right-hand wing contains chamfered tie beams with run-out stops, and incorporates a lean-to dairy with original fittings.
