Description

The following building shall be added to the list:-

STODY HUNWORTH TG 03 NE The Old Rectory 2/10000 and attached walls and stable block GV II

House. Dated 1849 on the entrance porch which also bears the Hobart arms and initials. Brick in Flemish bond with brick stacks and tile roofs. Two and three storeys, scattered fenestration. The main family block having two projecting bays to the south and garden fronts; the service wing in an appropriately modest style ranging to the north and terminating in a gable-facing cross wing with single-storey outbuilding to north face. Gable-facing stable block to the north in a matching style, linked to the service wing by walls and gateway. Strongly asymmetrical and picturesque composition in the Tudor Revival style. The entrance porch of particular note, liable-facing with pinnacles and carved stone aedicule to diaphragm arch. Stepped and pinnacled gables to projecting bays; the numerous stacks terminating in clustered, ornamented shafts. The details were inspired by the local, late medieval building tradition, and are to be found echoed in several authentic medieval structures nearby. Doors of original design. One leaded casement light of original design to peak of gable on east front. Interior: commodious stair hall rising to first floor, with staircase of original design. Carved stone fireplaces to most rooms on ground floor and doorcases with Gothic-styled mouldings. Of special note is the flat panelled ceiling to the drawing room facing the south garden.
