Description

The Old Rectory, originally built as a rectory and now functioning as a house, was constructed in 1837 and features a rectangular plan with a projecting porch. The building is made of ashlar stone with a slate roof and limestone stacks. The attached wall is made of brick and faced in sandstone.

The house is two storeys high with irregular window arrangements, including one and two-light stone-mullioned casements, some with transoms. There are stopped hoods over the first-floor windows, a twin-gabled parapet, and a string course above. On the ground floor, there is a bay window to the right of the projecting porch, which has a decorated stone parapet and two single lights positioned one above the other to the left of the porch. The porch itself features diagonal buttresses and a decorated parapet, with four steps leading up to a double panelled door set in a pointed surround with a stopped hood. A twin string course runs between the ground and first floors at the same level as the porch parapet.

The attached wall reaches up to 3 meters in height and includes a blind 'Tudor'-arched double entrance to the left of the house, with a blank heraldic shield above the gable. The gate piers at the front left terminate in octagonal shapes with ogee curved cappings and iron flag finials. There is also a panelled door within a 'Tudor'-arched surround, and blank heraldic shields are located above the doorway and on each gate pier. The wall features moulded saddleback coping.

Inside the house, the original layout includes a Gothic arched entrance hall, a moulded plasterwork ceiling in the front left room, and original fireplaces.
