Description

Hunworth Mill is a mid-18th century watermill, with an attached millhouse dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The two-storey mill is located to the left over the River Glaven and features two sluice arches. It has a large weatherboarded gabled loft that projects forward and is supported by three wooden posts. The north-east gable of the mill is constructed in Flemish garden bond brick, with the upper part weatherboarded. There is a central door leading to the water wheel and three slanting brick buttresses. The rear of the mill has three brick sluice arches, with the ground floor being timber framed and filled with brick nogging, much of which has been renewed, while the first floor is weatherboarded.

Inside the mill, much of the machinery remains, including the water wheel, great spur wheel, and stones. This installation is notable for having the drive to the stones coming from above. The attached millhouse is built of brick and covered with pantiles. It has five bays and is two storeys high with an attic. The windows were all renewed in the late 20th century, with five casements on each floor and four gabled roof dormers with casements beneath the pantiles. Three axial stacks have been rebuilt, and the right-hand gable is made of brick over a flint plinth, featuring two attic windows. The rear facade is brick, with flint used for the lower wall on the right. A wooden stair leads to the first-floor door on the left, and there is a central two-storey outshut with flint on the lower walls and weatherboarding above, also covered with pantiles.
