Description

The Firs is a house dating from the 17th or 18th century, constructed of colourwashed flint with brick dressings and covered by pantiles. It has a lobby entrance plan, consisting of two bays and two storeys. The building features a central axial stack, a platband, and a dentil cornice. A 19th-century central gabled porch made of colourwashed brick and also under pantiles has brick pilasters flanking the door, which is topped by a semicircular fan light with glazing bars. Each floor has two casement windows with glazing bars, and there is a small 19th-century casement under a segmental arch on the ground floor to the left. The gables project with parapets; the left-hand gable is made of coursed flint with brick above the eaves, and both gables have a platband at the first floor and eaves level. The rear of the house shows a rendered left-hand bay and a right-hand bay of coursed flint and brick mosaic with a platband. An early casement with leaded panes is located on the upper floor to the right, and there is a central rendered lean-to under pantiles. Inside, there is a large central stack with an enclosed fireplace to the left and a staircase located behind the stack.
