Description

The Vale is a house that dates from the 17th century and was altered in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick and flint, with brick dressings and a red pantile roof. The eastern part of the building is from the first half of the 17th century and features two storeys. The ground floor includes a brick hood moulded window with a brick dressed frame and a narrower three-light casement window. There is also a two-light casement window in a former door opening on the south side. On the first floor, there is a three-light casement window with leaded glazing bars set in a narrowed brick dressed opening, and a two-light casement window with a central chamfered brick mullion, leaded windows, a chamfered brick surround, and a drip mould. The pitch of the roof has been lowered, and there is a central stack with clustered polygonal chimneys, which was originally an end stack of the earlier build. Both the ground and first floors have chamfered and stopped spine beams and bressumer beams. The south facade was refaced in 19th-century brick and features one ground floor and one first floor sash window. A second pile was added to the west, which includes a central door and two first floor sash windows with glazing bars. There are also 19th-century 'L' shaped service wings at the north.
