Description
The Church of St. Mary is a ruined church located in Fulmodeston, abandoned after the construction of Christ Church Fulmodeston in 1882 and unroofed in the 20th century. The building is made of flint with brick dressings and features a west tower, nave, and chancel that are not structurally divided. The west tower, dating from around 1300, is buttressed and has a west door. Above the door is a Perpendicular 2-light window with an elaborate traceried rectangular sound hole in a rectangular frame. The belfry stage includes 'Y' tracery windows, also from around 1300, and has battlemented parapets. The tower arch is Perpendicular and leads to the nave, which has a blank north wall with a filled north door. The south wall features two deeply splayed lancet windows, while one Perpendicular window opening is blocked. There is also a 3-light window with tracery and a 2-light window with a missing central mullion, both in the Perpendicular style, as well as a 3-light east window.
