Description
Christ Church is a parish church built in 1882 by William Basset Smith of London, replacing the medieval churches of Croxton and Fulmodeston. It features a High Victorian Gothic style, constructed from knapped flint with stone dressings and a tiled roof. The church has a three-bay nave, a two-bay chancel, a three-bay south aisle, and a gabled vestry. The north porch incorporates re-used Perpendicular details from St. Mary Fulmodeston and showcases decorated details.
Inside, the church is faced with polychromatic brick and stone dressings, featuring a three-bay south arcade supported by octagonal piers. The chancel arch is adorned with clustered columns on responds. The nave roof is arched braced with scissor trusses above, while the chancel roof is arched braced and boarded. The south aisle contains poppyhead benches originally from St. John the Baptist Croxton. The font has a recut rounded bowl set on five columns, dating from the later 13th century and sourced from Croxton. The east window was created by Lavers and Westlake in 1893, and there is a stone pulpit and reredos with painted panels.
