Description

The memorial to Martha Southwold, dating from 1738, is located 3 meters north of the chancel of the Church of St. Peter. It is a headstone made of limestone, featuring a rectangular shape with a coved set-back top. The design includes a pair of Ionic columns that support a moulded entablature, which flanks a bowed circular inscription panel. Foliage is depicted in the spandrels. Above the entablature, there is a high relief figure of a naked woman with long hair reclining in a sinking boat.
