Description
The Bennett Monument is a chest tomb located about 20 meters south of the south tower in the churchyard of the Church of St. Peter in Rodmarton. It dates from the late 18th century, with the earliest decipherable date on the west side being 1817, and it commemorates Martha Bennett, who died in 1845. The monument is made of limestone and features a moulded plinth and capping on its base, with indented corners. It has a stepped cap with additional side pieces to the east and west, and a gadrooned upper stage. The sides of the tomb have round panels with carved surrounds and an egg and dart frieze along the top. The south side includes a square panel with a beaded edge, which holds an engraved bronze inscription panel.
